Virtual Compton Scattering

Virtual Compton Scattering (VCS) below pion threshold has emerged as a
powerful technique to study the dynamics of the nucleon polarizabilities.
Complementary experiments have been conducted across a wide range of
momentum transfer at Bates, Mainz, and Jefferson Lab. These labs have
successfully tackled the experimental challenges of VCS in different ways.
These will be discussed and an overview of the present experimental status
will be given. Finally, I will discuss new proposals to investigate the
generalized spin polarizabilities.
