Pion photoproduction from the deuteron in the Delta Region

and the LEGS-SPIN Collaboration
A series of pion photoproduction measurements have been carried out at
the LEGS facility using linearly polarized photons in the delta
resonance region and a series of unpolarized targets which included
liquid hydrogen, liquid deuterium, and solid hydrogen-deuteride. The
Spin-ASYmmetry (SASY) detector array provided large solid-angle coverage
and the ability to simultaneously collect and separate signals from the
individual photoproduction channels. Both charged and neutral pion
channels have been extracted from both protons and neutrons.
Preliminary Results will be presented, and the problem of inferring free
neutron quantities from bound neutron observables will be discussed.
